Rahu Mahadasha

aatm · Aatm Labs editorial · Last updated 9 November 2026

The Rahu Mahadasha (Rahu) is the Vimshottari planetary period ruled by Rahu, lasting 18 years — a named stretch of life that asks something specific of you.

Character of the period

The Rahu Mahadasha runs for 18 of the 120 years in the full Vimshottari cycle. Rahu is the north lunar node — like Ketu, a shadow point rather than a body — and its eighteen years tend to amplify desire and point it outward. Rahu has no limit of its own, so its seasons often bring ambition, obsession, foreign or unconventional paths, and a hunger for experience that does not quite know when it is satisfied. It is the part of the chart reaching for what it has not yet had.

What it asks of you

A Rahu period asks you to move into unfamiliar territory and to meet your own hunger honestly — to pursue what you want without being swallowed by the wanting. It can magnify both reach and restlessness, so it asks for discernment: which desires are yours, and which are borrowed from the noise around you. The orientation is toward conscious ambition rather than compulsive craving.

How aatm reads this

aatm calculates your dasha timeline from precise positions using the Lahiri ayanamsa and the canonical Vimshottari scheme, then keeps the period you are in present in every session. It will tell you the character of a Rahu period and what it is asking of you — never a claim about what will happen to you. aatm reads a Rahu period as the chapter of reaching — a season that asks what you are hungry for and why, not a prediction of fortune.

aatm shows you the period you are living through and what it is asking of you — gently, and without fear.
